We Slept it Off!

Well, our stay-cation was the rainiest week we ever had off together...ever!!  We had one day of sun, which was on our son's 13th birthday.  That in itself was a wonderful blessing.  One day, we all piled in the car and let the kids tell us where to turn.  We wound up headed north.  Just this side of Kentucky, my husband said he prefers the beach; so we turned around without even telling the kids.  It was so funny to hear them mention sights they thought we had passed within the last hour.  Another hour, and we were excitedly on our way to sandy waves without even a beach towel in the car.  Then, the thought occurred to us...what if it's raining there too?  We stopped for ice creams and looked up the forecast.  Every direction we headed that day, was in the line of storms and heavy rains for the next few days.  Sadly, we accepted the reality to go back home.  Still we had fun; and the car ride was filled with praise songs and goofy kids.  By the time we got to the house everyone was stir crazy and silly.  There was giggling and wrestling for the remainder of the evening.

Sooo our Vacation went from a planned trip to a beach, to a stay-cation at home with plans for drive in's, swimming pools and fun games in the yard. Nothing we planned, worked out.  What did work out was rest - a lot of it.  Not much got accomplished.  Each day we slept in, unsure of what the day would bring because of the weather. What we did have was amazing time with each other.  No one was preoccupied with driving or planning.  It reminded me of the 7th day.  God was busy for 6 days and on the 7th day he rested.  In the 7th year let the land rest.  I have to tell you, it was fine to not be caught up with the business of a trip and just let the family "be."   Although I will say, I cannot "like" anymore beach pics on Facebook - winky winky ;)
